The last few years have seen an increase in the amount of DIY web builders. With pre-designed sites, nice and easy user interfaces and a fair amount of flexibility, these builders allow all but the most inexperienced web user to create a decent looking site.
And nowadays, they aren’t half bad! With a huge array of templates available, as well as optional extras that allow for a some fancy features like eCommerce, live chat and so on, you can end up with a nice site come the end of it. They’re certainly a lot better quality than many of the budget options provided by certain business directory websites (which are cheap but very basic, often to the point of just being a single page, and are terrible for SEO).
Why does a design agency use one of these?
The simple answer is cost. Back in the day, all our sites were built from scratch, in our own, custom-built CMS, because it was the only way we had the flexibility to design the level of website that we’d be happy to hand over to a client.
But things have moved on since then, and we can provide people with an amazing mix of great value and great design by pairing our skills with off the shelf solutions.
By using one of these web builders – in our case it’s SquareSpace – we are able to remove the development cost from the process. For companies on a budget, or ones who just need a small website to give them some sort of online presence, this is great news.
And don’t worry – the flexibility of these systems means we can still put our design stamp on the job.
So I won’t just end up with a templated site?
Not in the traditional sense, no. It would be templated to the extent that we’re working into a pre-built, pre-laid out website, but now everything is responsive websites are increasingly being built within certain parameters anyway – it’s the best way to ensure your site delivers a consistent, quality experience across multiple devices.
But we are still able to change fonts, images, colours and even, to a certain extent, page layouts, so you can still be sure you’ll get a site that looks unique to you.
If it’s so great and easy, why can’t I just do my own?
You can – but it will probably then look like a template site! You see, we don’t want to churn out identical sites time after time, so we ensure our SquareSpace sites still have elements that set them apart. As part of the SquareSpace Circle community, we have access to the latest developer tips and tricks to push the tool beyond its DIY boundaries, and we have an experience of using the tool that a non-designer just won’t have.
That means we can deliver you a great product at a great price – and in a great timeframe!
Our SquareSpace sites start at £2,880, which is for the design and creation of up to 10 pages.
Some of our SquareSpace sites include:
