When it comes to websites, you probably don’t want us to build you a pretty, all-singing, all-dancing site that, once launched, can’t be changed in any way unless you come back to us.

You’ll want to be able to make changes yourself – add pages, amend text, upload new pictures. That’s what a content management system (CMS) is for – and when it comes to CMS platforms, there’s one that stands ahead of the rest.

    What is WordPress?

It’s a free, open-source (so anyone can contribute to its ongoing development) CMS that is used by almost 30% of the world’s websites. It’s clean and simple from a coding point of view, and flexible on the design front. And although it started life primarily as a blogging platform, it’s now used by all manner of sites, of all shapes and sizes across all industries. This very site you’re on now is in WordPress, so clearly we like it!

    Why do you use it?

The simple answer is cost. Back in the day, all our sites were built from scratch, in our own, custom-built CMS, because it was the only way we had the flexibility to design the level of website that we’d be happy to hand over to a client.

But things have moved on since then, and we can provide people with an amazing mix of great value and great design by putting our skills with off the shelf solutions.

Because it’s so widely used, you’ll never have an issue finding a developer that can work on a WordPress site. On top of that, the amount of plugins and add-ons that can be installed to set a site apart – things that used to cost a good chunk of money in development time – means your site can handle pretty much anything you want to throw at it without breaking your bank.

    Does it use pre-designed templates?

Not in the traditional sense, no. While it’s possible to use pre-built ‘Themes’ in WordPress – which then work in a similar way to tools like SquareSpace – we always design and build our WordPress sites from scratch.

We will still use the word ‘template’ when talking to you about the job, but don’t be put off by that as it’s not exactly what you may think it means.

When we create the visuals for the site, we’ll design several different ‘templates’ – pages that feature different layouts, functionality (an interactive map, a video etc) – for the developer to build. Every page on your site will be made from one of these templates, but the templates themselves will be unique to you.

It also means you don’t get penalised for having a large site – you pay for the templates that we design and build, and that could be three or four even if your site runs into the hundreds of pages.

That means we can deliver you a great product at a great price!

Our bespoke web design and development starts from just £5690, which is for the design, build and population of up to 5 pages across 3 different templates – see our site for The Independent Distributor Alliance Limited to see the size and scope of a project of this size.

For larger sites built in WordPress – and to give you an idea of the platform’s flexibility – see:
